My Art Foibles

Writer: Michelle TordoffMichelle Tordoff

Ah summer! A great time for pouring resin on my paintings. Resin likes to be warm. I pour in the evenings when it's a little cooler for me. You know who likes to be warm? Wasps! Occasionally, one will find its way into my studio and head for the lights. Last weekend, I was holding my cup of resin, pacing waiting for the timer to ding after five long minutes. Mixing, mixing, mixing, stirring, stirring, stirring, sweating, sweating, sweating in my yellow latex gloves and safety goggles when out of nowhere came a mean little wasp headed right at my forehead! I held my resin cup, reached for my fly swatter , and took a swing. And missed. Again and again I missed while dodging and spinning in a circle. I put my resin down, flapped my swatter, swung like they tell you not to, and stumbled my way out in a zigzag. I had to throw the resin away.

Where did the time go?

Really? Really? Did it not seem like spring was really long, the weather really great and school just let out? And now, what? Summer is...
